The phrase 'the enemy within' is a term used in early feminist movements to describe internalized misogyny. With so many white women having voted for Trump, the phrase has become relevant once more. As a white woman, I feel a sense of responsibility. I want to continue delivering this message, “Combat the enemy within,” to these voters so clearly misguided and motivated by their internalized misogyny.
I intentionally chose an ambiguous design as I think the phrase ‘combat the enemy within’ can be open to interpretation. Trump’s win ignited the hateful intolerances of not only women, but men as well, with discriminatory views towards class, religion, race, gender identity, and sexual orientation. I hope this poster can serve as a reminder to combat and speak out against the people who hold these prejudices, whether they be neighbors or government officials, during what will probably feel like the longest four years of our lives.
